Abstract
877,564. Clocks and watches. ELGIN NATIONAL WATCH CO. Oct. 3, 1957 [Nov. 26, 1956], No. 30947/57. Class 139. The moment of inertia of a balance 10, Fig. 1, is adjusted by radial movement of two weight members 20, which upon rotation of a resilient lever 17 ride along spiral arms 16. Each weight member 20 is slotted to receive an arm 16 on the lower face and an arm 18 of the lever 17 on the upper face. The lever 17 is mounted on the balance staff 12, Fig. 2, by a washer 32, 33 and is bowed so that its tips 31 engage the flange 30. In another embodiment, Fig. 7, each weight member 40 is recessed on the lower face to receive a spiral arm 16 and has a circular projection 41 which is located in a slot 38 of the lever 37. In another embodiment, Fig. 11, the lever 47 has spiral slots 48 each of which receives a circular projection of a weight member 50 which is recessed to receive a radial arm 51 of the balance.
