877,473. Buckles. HARLEY, F. B., and HARLEY PATENTS (INTERNATIONAL) Ltd. May 12, 1960 [May 12, 1959], No. 7559/61. Divided out of 877,472. Class 43 [Also in Group XXV]. A buckle for connecting a strap to another part comprises a body having a part for connection to the other part, a gripping edge extending transversely to the length of the strap and an auxiliary anchorage 59 having an edge parallel with the gripping edge the auxiliary anchorage having a non-circular trunnion 69 at each end received in a non-circular but larger aperture 70 in the body the dimensions of the trunnions and apertures being such that they permit only a limited rotary movement of the auxiliary anchorage with respect to the body such that the strap end is passed under the gripping edge around the auxiliary anchorage and back under the gripping edge between the gripping edge and the standing end of the strap, tension applied to the standing end of the strap tends to rock the auxiliary anchorage so that an edge of it adjacent the gripping edge moves towards the gripping edge to grip the strap. The buckle comprises upstanding side members 60 connected by cross members 61 and 62 each enclosed by a plate .64 to provide a gripping edge 65. The auxiliary anchorage has a semicircular upper end and a grooved lower edge 68. The trunnion at each end of the anchorage is semi-circular or D shaped and pivots in a similarly shaped but larger aperture in a side member. The cross member has a loop 79 to facilitate releasing the strap. The other end of the strap is looped round the other cross member and is sewn on to the strap. An auxiliary anchorage may grip each end of the strap.
