Abstract
922,070. Buckles. F. B. BARLEY, and HARLEY PATENTS (INTERNATIONAL) Ltd. Aug. 21, 1961 [Sept. 13, 1960], No. 31592/60. Class 43. A releasable buckle comprises a body providing a main anchorage for connection to a part to be connected to a strap, a roller extending transversely of the strap and having on its surface and extending parallel to its axis a number of ribs, and an auxiliary anchorage, having a transverse concave surface facing the roller, such that a tension in the strap-extending between the roller and auxiliary anchorage in one direction causes a rib to kink the strap into the concavity of the auxiliary anchorage to grip it, and a tension in the other direction displaces the anchorage away from the roller permitting it to rotate and allowing the strap to be drawn through the buckle. The buckle comprises two side rails 10 connected by a lower transverse member 11 and mounting a transverse rod 12 anchoring the loop of a strap part and a rod 15 mounting a roller 16 having a hub with ribs 18, a release member 23 with a top into connecting part with a finger piece 25 has side pieces 22 which pivot on the rod 15. The auxiliary anchorage 30 has two spaced lugs 31 which pivotally engage a rod 33 the ends of which move along an elongated slot 34 in the side pieces 22 and an arcuate slot 35 in the side rails 10. A bent-over spring 55 anchored on the member 11 and reinforced by a spring 59 presses on the lugs 31 to urge the anchorage towards the roller. The anchorage has two concavities 40, 41. Pulling on the free end of the strap or pivoting the relesae member moves the auxiliary anchorage away from the roller and frees the strap for free sliding movement. Tensioning the under run of the strap allows the auxiliary anchorage to grip the strap. The release member 23 may alternatively pivot on studs on the side rails and rod 33 then extends into oval shaped apertures in the member and is not guided by the side rails. Stops limit the pivoting movements of the release member.
