Abstract

876,229. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. WEBASTO-WERK G.m.b.H. March 9, 1960, No. 8372/60. Classes 75(1) and 126. [Also in Groups XII and XIII] An air heater for a motor vehicle comprises an annular combustion chamber 8 supplied with a mixture of liquid fuel and air by a positive displacement pump 4. The mixture is delivered to the combustion chamber by a pipe 5 which directs the mixture against the inner wall of the combustion chamber. The mixture is ignited by an igniter 7 and the combustion gases pass along a straight exhaust pipe 9. The air to be heated is driven by a blower 3 into an annular channel 12 surrounding the exhaust pipe 9 and passes to an outlet 13 connected to a space to be heated. The annular channel 12 is spaced from the exhaust pipe 9 by channels 14, 15 formed between walls 16, 17. Gas leaking from the exhaust pipe 9 enters the channels 14, 15. The air for mixing with the fuel is sucked by the pump 4 along a pipe 19 connected to a cup 22 surrounding the combustion chamber. The fuel is sucked from a supply vessel 37 and enters the air stream through an injector 26 disposed in the air pipe 19. The suction on the fuel moves a diaphragm 38 in the supply vessel 37 upwardly to open a spring-closed valve 39 and fuel flows into the supply vessel 37 from a storage vessel 29 having one wall formed by an elastic diaphragm 33. Fuel is pumped into the storage vessel 29 by the pump which also supplies the carburetter of the vehicle.
