Abstract

Cellulose textile materials are coloured by applying an acid-binding agent and one or more water-insoluble reactive dyestuffs which are free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups but which contain, in addition to or forming part of the reactive group, one or more hydroxyl groups. The dyestuffs are applied from an aqueous dispersion at temperatures of 0 DEG -100 DEG C. by dyeing, padding or printing techniques, and in the case of padding or printing, a heat or steam treatment is subsequently applied. The acid-binding agent, e.g. sodium or potassium hydroxide, sodium or potassium carbonate, trisodium or tripotassium phosphate, magnesium oxide or ammonium hydroxide, or a substance liberating an acidbinding agent on heating, such as sodium-bicarbonate or -trichloroacetate, may be applied before, together with or after the dyestuff, from an aqueous solution or suspension, or may be added to the dyebath during dyeing. The aqueous solution of the acid-binding agent may also contain electrolytes such as sodium-chloride or -sulphate. The aqueous dyebath may also contain sodium-chloride, -sulphate or -alginate, urea, dispersing agents and aqueous emulsions of organic liquids such as trichloroethylene. The printing paste may also contain urea, methyl cellulose, starch, locust bean gum, sodium alginate, water-in-oil or oil-in-water emulsions, surface active agents, sodium-m-nitrobenzene sulphonate and organic liquids such as ethanol. Suitable dyestuffs are of the nitro, mono- or poly-azo, p anthraquinone or phthalocyanine series and contain one of the following reactive groups: halogenated-1 : 3 : 5-triazinyl or pyrimidyl groups, g -halogenob -hydroxypropyl-amino groups, di-(g -halogenob -hydroxypropyl) amino groups, b -halogenoalkylsulphamyl groups, b -halogenoethoxy groups, b -halogenothioethane groups, g -halogenob -hydroxy-propylsulphamyl groups, chloracylamino groups, halogenoacyl groups, sulphon fluoride groups, vinylsulphonyamino groups, halogenoethylsulphonyl groups, thiocyano groups, alkyl- or aryl-sulphonyloxy-alkylsulphonyl groups, alkyl- or aryl-sulphonyl-oxyalkylaminosulphonyl groups, alkyl- or aryl-sulphonyloxyalkylamino groups, alkyl- or aryl-sulphonyloxyalkoxy groups, alkyl- or aryl-sulphonyloxyalkylaminocarbonyl groups, acryloylamino groups, trichloroacryloylamino groups, vinylsulphonyl groups and epoxypropyl groups. Numerous dyestuffs are specified and numerous examples of dyeing and printing are given.
