Abstract

1477689 Printing or pad-dyeing mixed fabrics CIBA-GEIGY AG 23 Aug 1974 [13 Sept 1973 14 Aug 1974] 37208/74 Heading D1B Mixed fabrics made from cellulose materials and polyester are printed or pad-dyed with a printing paste or dye liquor containing at least one dye of formula:- F-X-R 1 -Y where F is the radical of a disperse dyestuff free from groups dissociating in water; X is an electron-attracting bridge member; R 1 is an optionally substituted ethylene radical; Y is -OSO 3 H or -N(R 2 )(R 3 ) where R 2 and R 3 are C 1-8 alkyl groups different from each other, at least one of R 2 and R 3 being substituted by a water-solubilizing group, followed by drying, fixing and finishing. The preferred dyes are those in which is the radical of an azo or anthraquinone dye; X is -NHCO-, -SO 2 -, -N(R 4 )SO 2 - where R 4 is H or C 1-4 alkyl, or -OCO-; and the water solubilising group contained in R 2 and R 3 is -OSO 3 H, -SO 3 H or -PO 3 H 2 . The printing pastes or dye liquor also contains thickening agents, particularly aqueous alginate, agents for improving solubility and diffusion such as urea, oxidising agents such as m-nitrobenzenesulphonic acid, and acids or alkalies and water. The fixing is preferably performed with steam or dry heat. Tone-in-tone dyes are obtained on the mixed fabrics, particularly polyester/ cotton or polyester/regenerated cellulose.
