Abstract

Water-soluble heterocyclic compounds containing at least once the grouping-N=C (halogen)-in the ring, for use in treating textiles (see Group IV(c)), are obtained by reacting a polyhalogeno heterocyclic compound such as trihalogeno-pyrimidine or a cyanuric halide with a compound containing a water-solubilising group and a group such as a hydroxyl, thiol or amino group capable of reacting with the halogen of the heterocyclic compound. Specified compounds are the primary and secondary condensation products of cyanuric chloride with the following amines:-1-naphthylamine - 5 - (or - 7 -) sulphonic acid, 2 - naphthylamine - 6 - (or - 7 -) sulphonic acid, 2 - methylaminonaphthalene - 6 - sulphonic acid, benzidine disulphonic acid, p-aminophenyl-b -hydroxy-ethyl ether sulphuric ester, 2-naphthyl-amine-1:6-, -4:8-, -5:7- or -6:8-disulphonic acid, 1-naphthylamine -4:6:8-trisulphonic acid, sulphanilic acid, 3-amino-5-sulpho-2-hydroxybenzoic acid, p-phenylene diamine sulphonic acid, orthanilic acid, metanilic acid, m-phenylene-diamine-4-sulphonic acid, aminomethane phosphoric acid, m-aminophenyl-trimethylammonium bromide, p-aminobenzoic acid, taurine, N-methyltaurine, N-phenyl-glycine, 4:41-diaminostilbene- 2:21-disulphonic acid and 2-amino-8-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid. The condensation product of cyanuric chloride with 2-thiosnaphthol - 6 - sulphonic acid is also specified.ALSO:Textile materials of natural fibres, such as wool or silk, or of artificial fibres other than those of regenerated cellulose, such as those of cellulose esters or ethers, polyamides, polyacrylonitrile or polyvinyl alcohol, are dyed or printed by applying a dyestuff containing a reactive amino group (an amino group containing a hydrogen atom which is readily replaced by treatment with cyanuric chloride at 20 DEG C. in aqueous solution) and also applying, before, together with or after the dyestuff, an aqueous solution of a water-soluble heterocyclic compound containing at least once the grouping -N=C (halogen)- in the ring. Various soluble and insoluble dyestuffs are specified. The solutions, suspensions or pastes containing the dyestuff and/or the heterocyclic compound may also contain migration inhibitors such as cellulose ethers, sodium chloride or sodium sulphate, solution aids such as urea or thiodiglyeol, thickeners such as gum arabic, gum tragacanth, starch or sodium alginate and wetting agents. Suitable heterocyclic compounds are the reaction products of a polyhalogenoheterocyclic compound, such as trihalogenopyrimidine or a cyanuric halide, with primary or secondary amines, or hydroxy or mercapto compounds, containing solubilising groups, and many examples are given. The heterocyclic compound may be coloured and may comprise the dyestuffs of Specifications 838,338, 838,335, 826,405, 805,562, 785,222, 785,120, 781,930, 780,591, 775,308, 774,925, 772,030, 298,484 and 209,723. When the dyestuff or heterocyclic compound contains metal-complex forming groups, a treatment with a metal-yielding agent may be applied. Examples of dyeing and printing are given.
