874,753. Punching-apparatus; seaming. DOUGHBOY INDUSTRIES Inc. Aug. 5, 1958, No. 25088/58. Classes 31 (2) and 42 (1). [Also in Groups XVI and XVII] A machine for enclosing the upper end of a bag between a folded label and sealing the bag mouth and label to form a closure (see Group XVII) comprises a spring-loaded ball 202, carried by the upper of two heat-sealing jaws 20, 30, which co-operates with a bush 196 in the lower jaw 20 to punch an aperture A in the closure. Labels 167 are fed in front of the jaws by suction means (see Group XVI) and bags 181 are clamped against the labels and jaw 20 by a bar 94. A blade 169 then tucks the bag mouth and label between the jaws which close to seal the closure and punch the hole. The spring load is transmitted to the ball 202 by a rod 201 in order that the spring may be sited away from the heated jaw.
