Abstract

929,630. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. June 9, 1961 [July 26, 1960], No. 26019/60. Class 42 (1). [Also in Group XVII] A bag for liquids which in flattened form is frusto-conical in shape, is formed by sealing and severing transversely a flattened gusseted tube, the sealing being performed by heated bars and the severing by means which simultaneously beads the cut edges. The gusset at the narrow end may be perforated for filling &c. The tubular web is fed from a roll 7 past printing means 10-15 to a perforator 23 comprising elements (not shown) for temporarily opening the gussets and reciprocating fingers (Fig. 6, not shown) for forming rows of holes along both gussets corresponding to the end-forend positions of the bags. The web is gripped between opposed conveyers 24, 25, the former comprising gripper bars which hold the web against platens 27 carried by the latter. - Pairs of heated sealing and beading bars 28, 29 are mounted on a frame 36 which is raised, lowered and advanced with the continuously moving web by means 39 so that first the bars 28 form the seals which are then engaged for severing and beading by the bars 29.
