Abstract

874,631. Tliennionic valves. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. July 1, 1959 [July 1, 1958] No. 22635/59. Class 39(1). A tubular mesh cathode, formed by heating wires 3 and supported at its ends by metal rings or discs 6, 7 to which current supply leads 4, 5 are connected, is also supported between its ends by one or more members 9 spaced from the end supports 6, 7 and attached to but insulated from one of the supply leads, so as to prevent deformation of the cathode wires through their own weight with the high temperatures necessary for processing of the, cathode. The support member 9 may comprise a narrow annular sheet of tungsten or tantalum secured at its inner edge to an insulating member 8 mounted on metal disc 5a on supply lead 5 and welded at its outer edge to the cathode which may comprise tungsten wires of .2 to .4 mm. diameter wound in opposite spirals. Alternatively, the cathode may be supported by hairpin-shaped tungsten wires which embrace crossing points of the cathode wires and which are secured at their ends to an insulating disc mounted on member 8. If desired the cathode may be supported by two or more members 9 located at intervals along its length.
