874,492. Rope couplings and attachments. WESTFALISCHE UNION AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT FUR EISEN-UND DRAHTINDUSTRIE. Jan. 28, 1958, No. 2846/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 109. In a process for joining together two wire ropes or the end of a wire rope with another part of itself, a sleeve of deformable, age-hardening aluminium alloy is hot-pressed on to the combined ropes at a temperature above 400‹C. and within the homogenization temperature range of the alloy. The sleeve, which may be hotpressed so that the resulting joined ropes and the outer surface of the sleeve have a polygonal cross-section, may be made of an alloy which age-hardens at a high temperature so that further contraction of the sleeve occurs after the pressing and the pressure necessary to effect the join is reduced.
