Abstract

A carbon article is produced by the passage of an electric heating current through a shaped mixture of calcined coke powder, a carbonisable binder, e.g. pitch, having a m.p. of not above 300 DEG C. and more than 3% of sulphur.ALSO:Carbonaceous articles are obtained by shaping, pressing, and heating by electric current, a mixture of comminuted carbonaceous material and a binder mixture comprising a fusible carbonacious material of a M.P. not above 300 DEG C. and more than 3% of sulphur. Various pitches are specified for the fusible carbonaceous material, and calcined coke for the comminuted material.
