Abstract

Refractory bodies are prepared by introducing an unconsolidated mixture of basic refractory material, e.g. dolomite and/or magnesite, and a carbon containing binder, e.g. tar or pitch, into a mould, heating the mould to 150-400 DEG C., consolidating the contents of the mould at 150-400 DEG C. and optionally heat-treating the consolidated bodies. The mixture may be preheated before introduction to the mould.
