Abstract

1398568 Binder pitch CINDU NV 11 Sept 1972 [10 Sept 1971] 42005/72 Heading C5E Binder pitch, e.g. electrode pitch for the production of carbon electrodes, is made by mixing a highly-aromatic residual fraction from petroleum raw materials with coal tar pitch in a weight ratio of 1 : 9 to 9 : 1 and heating the mixture at above 350‹ C. The aromatic residual fraction can be a by-product of the steamcracking of a lighter petroleum fraction at above 750‹ C. to produce ethylene and propylene and suitably has a softening point (ring-and-ball) of above 60‹ C.
