Abstract
1376029 Oil, pitch and coke; cracking OSAKA GAS CO Ltd 16 Nov 1972 [27 Nov 1971] 52869/72 Heading C5E Oil, pitch and coke are produced by heating crude oil or distillation residue thereof having a Conradson carbon residue of 0À1 to 25% by wt. and containing 5 to 80% by wt. of substances boiling at at least 600‹ C., in the presence of a powdery carbonaceous substance having a Conradson carbon residue of at least 50% by wt. such that the weight of carbon residue in the total amount of the carbonaceous substance is in the range of one-tenth to ten times the weight of carbon residue in the total amount of the oil or residue, at 350‹ to 600‹ C. under an increased pressure of at least 2 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> gauge to produce oil, pitch and coke, and separating the pitch and coke from the oil. The powdery substance may be coal, coke, graphite, active carbon, carbonized resin powders or mixtures thereof, with a particle size of not more than 5 mm. The pitch obtained may be further heated at 350‹ to 510‹ C. under an increased pressure of 2 to 35 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and separated from the reaction mixture.
