Abstract
873,255. Blasting fuzes. CLEVELAND PNEUMATIC INDUSTRIES Inc. Jan. 22, 1960 [Jan. 22,1959; Feb. 24, 1959], No. 2491/60. Class 9(1). [Also in Group XXXIII] In an embedment anchor having explosive propulsion means (see Group XXXIII), the ignition system is prevented from operating until the anchor is immersed and is then insensitive to water depth. The anchor in Fig. 4 comprises a housing 10, nose member 12 and propellent charge 16 ignited by a squib 19 in an electric circuit comprising a battery 14 and earth connections at 21 and 28. When the anchor reaches the water, the connection at 21 is earthed (in salt water; in fresh water through an electrolyte provided at 21). When the firing pin switch 15 strikes the sea bed and earths the connection at 28, the circuit is completed and charge 16 ignited In the embodiment of Fig. 13 the anchor body 53 has a propulsior charge 69 with a percussior detonator 73. The firing pin 75 is secured in the cocked position showr by projections 90 on finger lock elements 88 engaging a shoulder 91 on the pin. The fingers 88 are held in position by a latch tube 78 which is prevented from moving by a piston 94. When the anchor is immersed, water flows through a passage 97 into a bore 77 to move piston 94 clear of the tube 78 which moves to free the fingers 88 from engagement with the shoulder 91. When the nose piece 86 strikes the sea bed, the firing pin 75 is moved against the action of a spring 87 to strike the detonator and fire the charge, as shown in Fig. 15.
