A grating for embedding in a cement, &c., road surface comprises a cast-iron plate with a honeycomb pattern of hexagonal perforations 1 defined by upwardly tapered walls 2. The grating has a plane top face 3 and a concave bottom face 4 and may be square or hexagonal. In one form, Fig. 2, the edges are bounded by a marginal portion 5 which is cut away at the corners to define recesses each equivalent to a quarter of a hexagonal perforation. In a second form, Fig. 4, the marginal portion is omitted and spaced dovetail projections 7 and complementary recesses 8 are provided.
