Abstract

1,237,538. Cutting inserts. MUREX Ltd. 24 April, 1969 [24 April, 1968], No. 19425/68. Heading B3T. A cutting insert for a cutting tool is in the form of a blade which comprises a plurality of contiguous edge faces 4 each face being provided with spaced apart parallel recesses 8 connected by a plurality of spaced apart coplanar lands 10 which, at the juncture between the edge faces and top and bottom surfaces, constitute cutting edges. The insert may have three or four edge faces and is reversible. In use two blades may be placed one on top of the other so that the lands on one blade overlie the recesses on the other blade, the edge faces lying in the same plane but out of phase with one another. The corners of the insert may be angled as shown in Fig. 3.
