A long and heavy precast concrete beam, e.g. a track for an elevated mono-railway, is inverted by a device including a lower cradle 1 rolled along a track 13 and an upper cradle 2 separable from the lower cradle 1 and rolled along a further track 13. As illustrated, the lower cage 1, which carries a rail truck transporting the beam, is locked in its displaced position by a pin passing through registering holes in the cradle and in a fixed bracket 21. Bolts 4 connecting ties 19 between the upper and lower cradles 1, 2 are then disconnected so that the upper cradle can be rolled to the position shown in broken lines which brings the beam 7 to its proper position for erection. The tracks 13 may be formed as racks engaged by teeth 12 on the cradles 1, 2 and the cradles may be moved by cables 18, 19, as illustrated, or by rams connected between the cradles or between the cradles and the fixed sub-structure. Clamps 9 securing the beam 7 may be operated by screws or by hydraulic or pneumatic rams and terminate in plates 10 carrying hard rubber facings 11.
