Abstract

870,038. Lever load handling machines on vehicles. HOLWELL, C. G. Nov. 27, 1959 [June 16, 1959], No. 20527/59. Classes 78 (3 and 78 (4). Apparatus for lifting bales B from the ground and loading them on to a vehicle T comprises a frame 1 detachably secured to the vehicle body, a lifting arm 2 pivoted to the frame and provided with grab jaws 9a, 9b and a wheel 6, an hydraulic ram 21 which is pivoted at 22 to the frame and at 25 to a link 14 of a jaw actuating linkage 14-18, and an abutment 19 on link 14. In operation initial extension of the ram causes the jaws to grip the bale and, when abutment 19 engages leg 7 on the arm, further extension of the ram luffs the arm upwardly to a position in which pivot 25 passes beneath pivot 3 whereafter continued extension of the ram opens the jaws and discharges the bale on to the vehicle. Springs 26, 27 effect lowering of the arm. The frame 1 is supported by an angle 31 and bolts 32 from a sub frame 28 bolted to the chassis of the vehicle. Wheels 33 on frame 1 facilitate its movement when detached from the vehicle.
