Abstract
868,628. Fire-extinguishing pressure vessels. PYRENE CO. Ltd. Jan. 12, 1960 [Jan. 12, 1959], No. 1085/59. Class 47. [Also in Group XXII] In making a maintained-pressure fire-extinguishing cylindrical vessel having a length substantially greater than its diameter, two identical cup shaped parts 1, 2 are formed by deep drawing, the diameter of one part 2 is reduced to enable this to enter the open end of the other and make a spigot and socket joint, a groove 4 is formed in the spigot to receive a brazing wire and the joint is heated to cause the brazing metal to flow and complete the joint. The parts 1, 2 are deep drawn from sheet steel, an opening is made in part 1 in which the operating head 3 is brazed and the open end of part 2 is reduced by spinning which simultaneously produces the groove 4. With copper wire in the groove the reduced end is forced into the open end of part 1 and the joint heated by high frequency induction after the assembly is filled with nitrogen. On heating the copper flows by capillarity to seal the joint.
