Abstract

870,886. Making pipes; soldering. CONEXTERNA Ltd., and WHITWORTH, F. Feb. 15, 1960 [Feb. 14, 1959], No. 5205/59. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). In a capillary joint fitting for securing pipes to a sleeve or to one another &c. the end of the fitting has an internal annular shoulder 12 provided with a recess 14 extending round the full periphery thereof, and a ring 15 of solder &c. is mounted in the recess being retained therein by a deformed edge 16 of the recess. The or each end of a coupling sleeve 10 is bored out to provide a portion 11 of enlarge diameter and the annular shoulder 12 to locate the end of a pipe 13. The recess 14 in the shoulder is of part circular section and receives the ring 15 of solder &c., a thin annular inner edge 16 being then peened over to retain the solder. With pipe 13 in the sleeve and heat applied the solder melts and flows to form a seal between sleeve and pipe.
