Abstract

1,003,144. Two-part couplings. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. May 2, 1962 [May 2, 1961], No. 16859/62. Heading H2E. A sleeve type contact comprises a single blank of sheet metal rolled to more or less tubular shape round a pin 2 of shorter length so that the contact interior is sub-divided by pin 2 into a contact sleeve portion I and a wire attachment sleeve portion III. Resilient arms 3 form the socket for a mating plug pin and are formed from the blank by transverse slots, the arms 3 being bent round and their edges bent slightly inwardly. Tongues 5 and 6 are for holding the contact in a body of insulating material. Bevels 8 and perforation 9 facilitate wire insertion and soldering. Pin 2 supports the wall of wire attachment sleeve 7, prevents the passage of solder and/or flux during soldering, absorbs heat during soldering and prevents a wire being inserted in sleeve 7 from being pushed through into the contact socket.
