Abstract

466,256. Welding tubes into containers &c. WITKOWITZER BERGBAU-UND EISENHUTTEN GEWERKSCHAFT, and BELOHLAVEK, B. Nov. 7, 1936, No. 30410. Convention date, April 6. [Class 83 (iv)] In welding a thin-walled tube 2 to a thick walled header or container 1, a bar 4 of similar diameter to the tube is first welded in at 5 and is then bored out to the diameter of the tube 2 which is finally welded at 10 to nozzle thus formed. The hole 3 may be counterbored to provide a seating for the bar 4 and a conical seating for the weld material 5. The upper part of the bar is initially bored out at 41. A press punch located within the header may be used to round off the metal at 6 and unite the end of the bar to the part 1. In a modification, Fig. 2, when the nozzle 7 to be welded in is already formed, a conducting mandrel 8 of steel or copper is fitted within the nozzle with an intermediate layer 9 of metallic paste to ensure good conduction of heat. The mandrel 8 is removed after the welding. The punch for rounding the part 6 may. also serve to compact the weld 5.
