Abstract

208,553. Lard, A. E. Dec. 14, 1922, [Convention date]. Metal tubes. - A shaft for a golf or like club is formed of a tapering metallic tube having one or more longitudinal grooves, the walls of the shaft being of substantially the same thickness throughout. In one form, a blank of high carbon steel approximately .012 inches thick is bent to a tapered tubular form, and the longitudinal edges are joined by clinching fingers 3, Fig. 5, through openings 4<a>, a strip 5 of copper alloy intervening, the parts being afterwards brazed together. One or more longitudinal and tapered grooves 8, Fig. 7, are then formed in the shaft, and a cylindrical handle 9, Fig. 1, is driven on and pinned, the grooves at the upper end being filled in with aluminium 10. Instead of using the seamed tube described above, a seamless tube or a tube with an overlapped seam may be used.
