Abstract
963,891. Brazing. RALEIGH CYCLE CO. Ltd. Aug. 10, 1960 [Aug. 19, 1959], No. 28278/59. Heading B3R. In brazing a tubular metal part to a second metal member, there is employed a jointing element of sintered material impregnated with brazing metal shaped to have surface contact with the inner surface of the tube and with a surface of the second member and having one or more material receiving cavities large relative to the pore size of the sintered material, each such cavity being filled with solid brazing metal and the brazing material is melted to effect brazing. A shaped plug 14, Fig. 1, of sintered iron impregnated with brass and having a cavity with brazing metal 16 is fitted into the end of a tube 11 to be joined to a tube 12 of a cycle frame and the joint is heated in protective atmosphere or flux to fuse the brass and effect brazing. A number of through holes 19, Fig. 2a, are provided in the plug to house brazing material. Two tubes may be joined end to end with a plug which engages the end of each tube. According to the Provisional Specification, a flanged sleeve may be used for saddle joints.
