Abstract
904,667. Soldering. KAY & CO. (ENGINEERS) Ltd. May 9, 1960 [May 8, 1959; Dec. 7, 1959], Nos. 15868/59 and 41458/59. Class 83 (4). In a pipe coupling member comprising a tubular limb or limbs, with the or each limb to fit into or receive therein the end of a pipe and having at least two grooves around its surface intended to be adjacent the pipe, a ring of flux-cored solder is pressed into at least one of the grooves in the or each limb. The member comprises a tubular member with coaxial parts 10, 11, Fig. 1, extending from a larger diameter central ring 12 and three grooves 13, 13a, 13b are formed in the outer surface of each part, grooves 13, 13b each carrying a strip of flux-cored solder S. The ends of pipes to be joined are enlarged to allow the member to be received therein until the ring 12 abuts the pipe ends and then the solder is melted, the air in the grooves 13a expanding to force the solder along the surfaces to be joined. In a modification, the member is a socket with its grooves and central ring on the inner surface thereof, a pasty adhesive being used to hold the flux-cored solder strip in the grooves. A socket-type elbow jointing member 5 is shown in Fig. 3. It is stated that a series of recesses or indents may be provided between the solder containing grooves and the solder holding adhesive may be a flux.
