Abstract

1,152,348. Enclosing cable joints. SIEMENS A.G., and FELTEN & GUILLEAUME CARLSWERK. 27 Sept., 1966 [29 Sept., 1965], No. 43054/66. Heading H2E. A cable sleeve assembly of thermoplastic synthetic material, e.g. polyethylene, comprises a central portion 1 which is split longitudinally so that its ends can be welded to end-pieces 2 having cable-entry bosses and its longitudinal edges 4 can be welded together in lapping fashion. The welds are preferably separable and may be effected by heater wires &c. embedded in the edges. The portion 1 is sprung over end-pieces 2 already positioned on the cable, e.g. at each end of a splice or junction, and is welded to extensions 3 thereof. The portion 1 may alternatively be formed as two semi-cylindrical shells. Support rings (8), (Fig. 3, not shown) may be located inside the extensions 3 to engage a bracing member (6) positioned within the sleeve before welding. Pips (9) may be formed in situ on hemispherical end-pieces, having two bosses (7), to locate the support rings (8).
