868,109. Hydraulic turbines. JOANNESJAN, R. A., and GOUSSMAN, M. T. July 30, 1958, No. 24507/58. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXXIV] An hydraulic turbine driving a well-boring drill comprises a shaft 4 bladed on its outside and surrounded by a housing 2 bladed on the inside, the outside diameter of the shaft blading 3 being less than the inside diameter of the housing bladings 1, and the shaft bladings being offset axially relative to the adjacent housing bladings. This construction allows the bladed shaft to be withdrawn upwardly through the housing, as for the renewal of the drill bit. The bladings 1, 3 may be fixed to the housing and shaft respectively by means of a shrink fit, as described in Specification 846,188. Alternatively, they may be formed integral with the housing and shaft or welded thereto. Thrust bearings comprise metal discs 10 secured on the shaft 4 by a nut 12 and bearing against stationary rubber bearings 8 which are secured in the housing 2 by a nut 9. A rubber radial bearing 7 is provided. The turbine may be divided into two sections spaced along the shaft from one another. The shaft may be stationary, the housing then rotating instead.
