Abstract
823,877. Hydraulic turbines. MANNESMANN-TRAUZL A.G. March 26, 1957 [June 25, 1956], No. 9924/57. Class 110 (3). [Also in Groups XXI and XXXIV] A turbine 4 for driving well drills has a bearing assembly comprising a multiple-collar bearing 15 and radial bearings 22, 23, drilling fluid which serves as the working fluid of the turbine being conducted through passages provided inside and outside the annular slide faces of the collar bearing so that the drilling fluid can enter between the slide faces to give adequate lubrication. An adaptor 1 having threads 2 for connection to the drill string carries the casing 3 of the turbine. The turbine shaft 6 which is threaded at 7 for connection to the drill rotates within a radial bearing 5 carried by the casing. The turbine comprises runners 8 keyed to the shaft at 9, guide vanes 10 connected to the casing, and additional radial bearings 11 supporting the shaft. The collar bearing comprises collars 17 keyed to the shaft at 16 and discs 18 carried by the casing, the collars and discs having recesses 19, 20 respectively, forming the passages. The discs have annular rubber facings 26 provided with radial grooves.
