Abstract

1396051 Boring earth &c KUNGURSKY MASHINOSTROITELNY ZAVOD 5 March 1973 [15 March 1972] 10596/73 Heading E1F [Also in Division F1] The invention relates to a well-drilling turbine which comprises a stator casing 1 connected at its upper end through an adaptor 2 to the lower end of a drill string through which drilling fluid is supplied to the turbine. A shaft 3 is rotatably mounted in bearings 4 within the stator casing, the shaft 3 being connected at its lower end to a hollow shaft 24 mounted in bearings 26 and carrying at its lower end a drill bit 28. The turbine comprises a series of rotor members 8 freely rotatably and axially mounted on the rotary shaft 3, each rotor member having blades 9 and an inner sleeve or bush 10; also a series of stator members 5 rigidly mounted in the stator casing each having blades 6 and an outer sleeve or bush 7. Carrier members 11 are secured to the shaft 3 and carry balls 12 which engage a sleeve 10 of a rotor member and a fixed sleeve 7 of a stator member so that the assembly acts as a planetary reduction gear, the shaft 3 being driven by the rotor members at a reduced speed. The axial loading of the drill fluid acting on the rotor members serves to increase the frictional loading of the balls of the reduction gear assembly. The turbine comprises also at least one further stage which comprises a stator element 18 having blades and a rotor element 15 secured to the shaft to rotate therewith but with freedom for axial movement thereon, the axial load on the rotor element of the further stage acting on the rotor element of the planetary stage so increasing the frictional loading.
