Abstract

814,957. Turbine - driven well - boring machines. ETABLISSEMENTS NEYRPIC, ATELIERS NEYRET-BEYLIER ET PICCARD-PICTET, and GROS, C. May 28, 1957 [May 28, 1956], No. 16956/57. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXI] In a turbine-driven coring machine for collecting earth samples at the bottom of bore-holes, the turbine rotor elements 12 are supported on the inner surface of the tubular shaft 10 which is connected to the drill bit and the stator elements are mounted on the external surface of a hollow shaft 1 disposed within the tubular shaft 10 and secured to the lower end of the drill string, the coring tube 5 having its upper portion 6 disposed within the hollow shaft 1 and resting upon a seating 4 formed therein. The shaft 1 has a hollow portion 2 which receives the turbine working fluid from the drill string, the lower part of the shaft 1 having a hollow portion 3 of smaller diameter than the portion 2, the conical seating 4 being provided at the junction of the hollow portions 2, 3. The stator blade elements 7 of the turbine are secured on the lower part of the shaft 1 by means of a lock-nut 8. The rotor blade elements 12 are secured within the tubular shaft 10 by means of the lock-nut 13 which carries at its lower end the drill bit 9. The shaft 10 extends upwardly and surrounds the shaft 1, a radial bearing 11 being disposed therebetween. Elementary radial and thrust bearings are provided between the rotor and stator blade elements are disclosed in Specification 814,956. The coring tube 5 is disposed within the lower end of the shaft 1, the plug 6 at the upper end of the coring tube resting on the conical seating 4. Bores 17 are provided in the tube 5 so that the inside of the tube may be connected to the discharge end of the turbine. Turbine working fluid passes through the openings 15 in the shaft 1 to the space 14 and after flowing through the turbine discharges through the annular space 16 between the lock-nut 13 and the coring tube 5.
