Abstract

867,678. Knitting-machines. PALIZ-HOLDING A.G. Aug. 14, 1959 [Feb. 17, 1959], No. 27920/59. Class 74 (2). A device for pressing down and holding down the loops as they are formed by the needles of a parallel machine comprises two plates 12, 13 moving with one, 4 of the needle cams and bearing pins 14, 15 about which fabric holding-down members 18, 20 and 19, 21 can pivot independently in the general plane of the fabric so that, as the cam carriage carries out a traverse, the members encounter the fabric fell, the leading one being swung into the attitude of the member 18, 20, Fig. 1, and the trailing one into the attitude of the member 19, 21. The part 20b or 21b of the leading member encounters and presses down the newly cast off loops shortly before the needles begin their next advance; the part 20c or 21c retains the loops caught in the needles as the needles continue that advance, so causing latch opening, and finally pulls the work down as the needles are retracted again behind the knocking over comb 6 or 7. The extreme positions of the members are determined by stops 22, 23. Their idling positions may be determined by the action of torsion springs. The width of the members 19, 20 may be substantially equal to the distance between the two needle beds; or the ends of the members may be bifurcated, the resilient prongs 28, 29 pressing on the knocking over combs; and the part 20c. may be split. When it is sufficient for pressure to be exerted only at one point in the fell of the fabric, the members my be each made up of a slightly resilient rod carrying a thinner resilient fabric pulling down piece. The parts 20c, 21c may be made shorter and split into two arms 33, 34, their action during the final phase of needle retraction being taken over by wire loops such as 30, that on the trailing member being the active one. These loops may be angular, as shown, or smoothly curved and may be secured at both ends, or (as shown) at one end only, the other end taking into a recess 32.
