Abstract

867,162. Electric fan heaters. NUTONE Inc. Aug. 25, 1959 [Oct. 1, 1958], No. 29068/59. Class 39(3). [Also in Groups X and XXV] A combined room heater and ventilator comprises a motor adapted to drive two fan blades which are mounted one above the other within a cylindrical casing which has an exhaust port 45, Fig. 2, in its wall at its upper end and is open at the lower end. The upper fan, the exhaust fan 41, has a capacity several times that of the lower fan, the convection fan 36, so that in operation with the heating elements 25 out of circuit air is expelled through the outlet 45. When the heating elements 25 are energised a bimetallic spring 55, Fig. 3, expands and causes a spindle 57 to rotate thus causing a gate 50 to close the exhaust vent, and render the exhaust fan ineffective; in this way the convection fan drives a draught of air over the heating elements and out through the open end of the casing. The device is preferably mounted in a ceiling of a room. Alternatively the gate 50 may be operated by means of a solenoid arranged in the heating circuit, which contains an indicator lamp to indicate when the heating elements are energised.
