A gas cylinder 17, Fig. 1, is charged from each of a plurality of containers 10a - - f in turn themselves charged with gas at differing pressures ; the lowest pressure container say 10a delivering through a duct 21a, a hand valve 12a and a non-return valve 24a into a ring manifold 23 and thence through a valved duct 25 into the cylinder 17 which has a valved conduit 16 leading to a second ring manifold 14 having branch ducts 15a - - f leading to the lower side of the control piston 52, Fig. 2, of automatic valves 11a - - f associated with each container; the upper side of the piston of each valve being subjected to the pressure within its associated container whereby when said pressure falls to a predetermined valve the valve 51 is opened and allows discharge therethrough of gas from the next higher pressure container 10b to the manifold 23 and thence to the cylinder 17. Similarly when the pressure in container 10b falls sufficiently the valve 11b is opened to allow gas from the next higher pressure container 10c to traverse the non-return value 24b and so gain access to the manifold 23 and cylinder 17 and so on until all the containers 10a - - f have contributed. Assuming the piston 52 to be that of valve 11a, its underside is connected through a port 50b to the ring main 14, ts upper side is connected through a port 50a to the container 10a and the valve inlet and outlet ports 50c, 50d are connected to the container 10b and ring main 23 respectively.
