Abstract

850,465. Valves. CARLS, W. April 8, 1957 [April 9, 1956], No. 11376/57. Class 135. A manifold 20, Fig. 1, is provided on its upper surface 22 with a number of stations, each of which has holes 30 for locating a piston valve 42, and five ports, the centre port 32 being connected to a pressure source and the end ports 34, 36 to exhaust whilst the intermediate ports 38, 40 are for connection to a motor. The manifold is supplied with pressure fluid through an opening 50 which leads to a central passage 52, Fig. 4, through the manifold having an alternative opening at the other end, one of the openings usually being plugged. Each centre port 32 opens into the passage 52 whilst two passages extend across the manifold at each valve station, each of these passages being open to both sides of the manifold through separate outlets 60, Fig. 1; one of the cross-passages, which also opens to the underside of the manifold, is connected to the intermediate port 40 by a channel 64, Fig. 4; the other cross-passage is connected to the other intermediate port 38 by a channel 66. The exhaust ports 34, 36, Fig. 1, are connected to passages 70, 72, Fig. 4, which in turn open to the sides and bottom of the manifold via openings 76, 74 and 80, 78, respectively. With the exception of the supply port each of the other ports can be connected to the bottom or either side of the manifold to suit any arrangement of piping, the remaining openings being plugged.
