Abstract
1,222,213. Air cushion vehicle. K. B. SENAR. 22 Aug., 1968 [3 June, 1967], No. 25709/67. Heading B7K. An air cushion vehicle has its underside divided by skirts or jets for example 11, 12, 13 into three longitudinally extending cushion areas 14, 15, 16 the two outer of which 14, 15 are supplied with pressure air from a power source and means 24, 25 are provided whereby air drawn off from either of the outer areas 14, 15 may be discharged on the opposite side of the craft for steering purposes. The outer areas 14, 15 are supplied with air through two elongated orifices (17, 18), Fig. 1 (not shown), or by ducts 17, 18 from plenum chambers 30 which are supplied via ports 32, 33. The inner air cushion 16 is supplied by leakage below the inner skirt members from areas 14, 15. For steering purposes a rudder (X), Figs. 5-10 (not shown), is supplied. In addition to enable the craft to be steered at low speeds valves 24, 25 may be opened. In Fig. 3 valve 24 is closed and valve 25 is in a vertical open position so that air is bled from chamber 42 corresponding to cushion 15 while at the same time valve 25 closes port 23 so that the air is discharged through port 22.
