Abstract
A friction article for brakes is formed of a sintered mixture of ceramic material other than mullite, of a binder metal, and of molybdenum or tungsten which inhibits the formation of a high melting glaze on the friction surface. Specified ceramics are silica, magnesia, zirconia, silicon and tungsten carbides, alumina and/or a silicate e.g. part cyanite. Optional ingredients are lubricants e.g. graphite, lead; and metals e.g. iron.
