Abstract

1325057 Refractories DIDIER-WERKE AG 1 Sept 1970 [2 Sept 1969] 41730/70 Heading C1J A fixed ceramic refractory shape has located a second material having good thermal conductivity and a M.P. above the firing temperature of the ceramic but which sinters at the firing temperature and comprising metal, an alloy or metallic compounds or boron or SiC, or Si 3 N, the second material being arranged as an insertion as at least one layer, or two or more rods, a plate, a disc, a cylinder, or a mesh in the ceramic and which is fired with the ceramic in a reducing atmosphere so that, though localized, it is sintered and forms a unitary structure with the ceramic. The insertion may comprise sintered particles before firing. The insertion can be enveloped in a layer of siliceous material, e.g. a phosphate or borax glass. The refractory can be argillaceous or contain up to 90% of Al 2 O 3 . A long list of insert materials is given.
