Abstract

An integral composite refractory comprises a network of a filamentary refractory metal and a binder of a mixture of metal and refractory materials which fills the spaces in the network and is sintered into coherent form. The Provisional Specification states that the binder may be metal alone. Tungsten and molybdenum are preferred for the network, whilst specified binder mixtures are: (1) cobalt with either alumina, magnesia or titanium carbide; (2) iron, nickel, cobalt, chromium or an alloy thereof, with alumina and one or more carbides, borides or silicides.
