863,822. Electromagnets. ROBERTSHAWFULTON CONTROLS CO. April 9, 1958 [July 11, 1957], No. 11161/58. Class 35. An electromagnet comprises a housing 10 enclosing an armature 14 and a core 34 having two legs 36 connected by a base 38, with a coil 40 of flat strip wound around the base portion, a clamp 50 extending over the coil to clamp the assembly in cushioned relationship with the housing. The armature 14 may be connected to a rod 16 passing through an aperture 12 in the housing and biased by a spring 18. The coil strip may be aluminium foil with oxide insulation with the ends folded over at right angles to form terminal taps 42, 44 to which leads 46, 48 are connected.
