863,519. Driving belts. MURRAY, F. C. April 29, 1959, No. 14621/59. Class 80 (1). A V-belt of conventional construction and of angle B is formed with a V-groove 19 of angle C extending from its inner surface to more than half its thickness, the faces of the groove being deflected as the belt laps its pulleys. Under no-load the outer surface of the belt as it laps its pulleys is convex, Fig. 3, not shown, but becomes straight under load, Fig. 4, not shown, with consequent uniform stressing of the reinforcing cords 16. The effective belt angle D = B + C is slightly larger than the pulley angle A, Fig. 3 (not shown), and the transverse flexing of the belt aids cooling.
