919,476. Driving belts. JONES, C. W., [trading as JONES & SON, C. W. [Firm of]]. April 12, 1961 [Jan. 16, 1960], No. 1651/60. Class 80 (1). A grooved pulley 10, Fig. 3, is engaged by an inner V-belt 12 on which is superimposed one or more flat or V-belts 16 which may or may not contact the pulley walls and which frictionally engage the belt 12 to participate in the drive without being rigidly secured thereto so that relative movement between the inner and outer belts is allowed during drive. In one form, Fig. 4 (not shown), the grooves of a multigroove pulley are engaged by separate V-belts whose outer surfaces are frictionally engaged by a single wide flat belt. In another form, a multi-groove pulley is engaged by three V-belts, each of which, 24 (Fig. 5), consists of a number of overlapping strips secured together by pins 28, the outer surfaces of the three belts being frictionally engaged by a single flat belt 26 of nylon or other material. The inner and outer belts are loosely coupled by the pins 28 which are extended to engage slots in the belt 26; alternatively, the belt 26 may carry pins engaging slots in the belts 24.
