807,446. Variable speed belt gearing. STEINER, C. E. April 19, 1955 [April 20, 1954], No. 11286/54. Class 80 (2). In variable-speed gearing having an expanding pulley or pulleys of V-form a friction-ring 20 of rubber or other flexible material is located in the groove 22 of each expanding pulley. The ring 20 has one or more recesses 21 engaged by the driving-belt and has line contact with the conical faces of the pulley discs 23, 24. The line contact is obtained by forming the sides of the ring 20 with two faces intersecting at a line 43 or by giving the ring sides a convex curvature.
