863,439. Foam-generating apparatus. PYRENE CO. Ltd. Jan. 4, 1960 [Oct. 3, 1958], No. 31663/58. Class 14 (1). [Also in Group XXI] A fire-fighting vehicle carries a foam generator 6 of the forcing type, i.e. one which induces atmospheric air through a restricted opening 7, the foam being delivered to a projector 9 mounted to throw foam through a considerable distance and a pump 5 connected to the generator 6 and operative to deliver water together with foam-stabilizing compound to the generator under a pressure of at least 350 lb. per square inch. A two-stage centrifugal pump 5 is driven by the vehicle engine 1 and draws water from a tank 12. The first stage delivers water at 100 1b. per square inch and the second stage boosts the pressure to 400 1b. per square inch. The water from the second stage goes direct to the generator 6 together with foam stabilizing compound from a tank 13, the foam being formed in a foam tube 8 and delivered to the projector 9 provided with mixing gauzes 11. A pipe connection 15 runs from the pump 5 between the two stages to four hand lines 16 each terminating in a non-forcing generator 17, these generators thus being supplied with water containing foam stabilizing compound under the relatively low pressure of 100 1b. per square inch.
