Abstract

1,175,062. Portable fire extinguishers. WALTER KIDDE CO. Ltd. 13 Sept., 1967 [28 Oct., 1966; 14 Feb., 1967], Nos. 48532/66 and 7097/67. Heading A5A. [Also in Division B1] A portable fire foam generator comprises a housing 12 open at both ends, a concertina mesh 18 at one end, a spray nozzle 27 for foam forming solution situated in a venturi tube 19, 21, and an air injector 22 supplied with compressed air from a container which is inserted in, or serves also as, a handle 15. The air injector 22 comprises an annular chamber 25 surrounding a venturi 23 which thus aspirates ambient air through its inlet 24; further air is entrained by the venturi 19, 21. Foam forming solution is provided by pressurized container 29. In another embodiment (see the drawing of Provisional Specification 1,175,062, not shown) the compressed gas container (124) is a separate unit from the foam generator and is used to pressurize the foam forming solution container (128). The apparatus of the invention generates a highly expanded foam, i.e. one with a foam/solution ratio greater than 1,000 to 1.
