Abstract
967,792. Making foam. P. NASH, and R. J. FRENCH. Sept 23, 1960 [July 14, 1959], No. 24175/59. Heading B1C. [Also in Division A5] Fire extinguishing foam-generating apparatus which may be mounted on a crash tender or on a helicopter, comprises a gas-turbine compressed-air generator 14, a tank or, as shown, separate tanks 11, 13 for storing water and foam compound, a mixing chamber 19, an air line 15 from the generator having connections to the tanks and to the mixing chamber and a liquid line or lines 21, 22 for supplying water and foam compound to the mixer. The foam passes via an improver 23 to a monitor 24 and to hand lines 25 or alternatively the improver and monitor can be omitted and the foam fed directly to hand lines each equipped with a foam-making branch pipe at the output end. When mounted on a helicopter with reaction powered blades, on landing at the scene of a crash, the output from the turbo-compressor would be switched to the foam generator by a valve arrangement.
