Abstract
862,822. Loud-speakers. PHILCO CORPORATION. Aug. 20, 1958 [Aug. 20, 1957; Dec. 20, 1957], No. 26769/58. Class 40 (4). An electrostatic loud-speaker has two like component parts facing one another with the moving electrodes closely air-coupled and driven in the same direction by a push-pull circuit. Two loud-speaker units such as are described in Specification 795,962 are assembled face-to-face as shown in Fig. 1, the fixed electrodes 14 being electrically connected to a polarizing battery. The diaphragms are fed by a push-pull circuit 25<SP>1</SP> and are spaced from the fixed electrodes by threads or wires 17, Fig. 3. The diaphragms are tensioned by spring-pressed bars 20 and are spaced from one another by members 23. A continuous sleeve-like diaphragm 123 may enclose a pair of perforated metal plates 129, Figs. 10, 11, the metal plates being insulated from one another and fed by the push-pull amplifier. Tension in the diaphragm is achieved by pressing the metal plates laterally under spring action. Alternatively the metal plates may be separated by insulating wedge-shaped members 121c, Fig. 16.
