Abstract
1471300 Diaphragms FOSTER ELECTRIC CO Ltd 24 Dec 1974 55809/74 Heading H4J A diaphragm 1 for an electrodynamic transducer such as a loud-speaker, microphone or headphone comprises a non-magnetic insulative membrane 6 carrying a conductor 4. The membrane 6 and portion of the conductor 4 are undulated by a plurality of part-spherical projections 5. Each projection 5 is of a dimension sufficient to extend across at least one conductor portion and at most over two conductor portions. Preferably the membrane 6 is of polyimide and the conductor 4 is of aluminium. The diaphragm 1 may be circular and adhered to a support 2. The projections 5 are formed by pressure moulding and extend uniformly over the entire vibratory portion of the diaphragm 1. They are preferably shallow yet make the diaphragm relatively rigid. As many projections 5 as possible are formed, so as to make the flat spaces in between as small as possible. The diaphragm 1 is for use in an electrodynamic transducer having magnetic pole surfaces of an associated magnetic circuit on the side of the diaphragm 1 remote from the conductor 4.
