Abstract

1368070 Stereophonic systems; loud-speaker systems; acoustic devices A V BORISENKO 13 Dec 1971 57807/71 Headings H4J H4R and H4X A stereophonic sound-reproducing system comprises two loud-speaker assemblies each including a middle frequency loud-speaker unit having an acoustic lens which is arranged at an angle to a base line on which the two loudspeaker assemblies lie. The arrangement is said to make the spatial sound panorama practically independent of a listener's position on a line parallel to said base line. The system comprises two loud-speaker assemblies 1, each of which includes a low frequency and a high frequency speaker unit (not shown) positioned on either side of a central middle frequency unit including loud-speakers 2 and an acoustic lens 3 which is laminar in form and comprises between 6 and 8 plates 4 arranged at 40 degrees to the base line B. The design of the lens to give the "directivity patterns" required to give the required spatial effect is said to depend on the separation of the speaker assemblies. For lenses arranged at 40 degrees to the base line, the speaker assembly separation is quoted as 2À4 metres. The high frequency speaker units may be orientated at the same angle as the middle frequency units to the base line.
